Ripon community Fourth of July event in jeopardy

The status of a Fourth of July celebration in Ripon appears iffy.
The Ripon Chamber Foundation took the helm of the community event held at the Mistlin Sports Park this past year.
But that was too tall of an order.
Tamra Spade, who is the president and CEO of the Ripon Chamber of Commerce, recently notified the City of Ripon that the Chamber Foundation no longer has the resources to handle the task.
The work entails months of fundraising not to mention the manpower necessary for the pyrotechnics display and celebration.
“I was continuing to look for someone to partner (the Fourth of July event),” Spade said in a recent letter to the City. “But we were notified by that one organization we were talking with that they will not be able to participate this year.”
The City of Ripon handled the Fourth of July festivities in previous years.
Elected leaders will discuss this matter and more at Tuesday’s meeting in the Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Rd.
Other agenda items include:
uCouncil will consider changes to the current Spring Clean-up Program as a result of increasing cases of illegal dumping, residents placing unacceptable items at the curb, number of scavengers, and complaints from the public on overall appearance.
uCouncil will consider directing staff to move forward with an excessive water use penalty based on a resident’s water use per lot size.
uStaff will provide a report on street light maintenance.
