RIPON — Ripon resident Joseph Beeler was among 19 Americans rescued after a charter fishing boat capsized on the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mexico late Sunday night.

The 59-year-old was aboard a 115-foot pleasure fishing vessel dubbed “Erik” when a storm hit.

He was rescued Sunday after being in the water for more than 16 hours. Those rescued were clinging to life vests, coolers, and rescue rings. He is expected to return home Friday.

Seven tourists are still missing.

A Ceres man among the group – Leslie Yee – was found dead in the water.
