RIPON – National Night Out is held on the first Tuesday in August.

For members of the Ripon City Council, this community / police awareness-raising event planned for 7 p.m. that day coincides with their Aug. 7 meeting.

On Tuesday, they’ll seek to push their meeting time back by two hours, from 7 to 5 o’clock, thus, allowing for elected leaders to take part in activities planned that evening at the Community Center.

National Night Out is intended to increase awareness about police programs in the community. Included are drug prevention, Neighborhood Watch, and other anti-crime efforts.

The council will discuss this and other items at the 7 p.m. open session at the Ripon City Hall Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

The agenda also includes:

• The Council expecting to accept the proposal from Neil Anderson and Associates, thus, authorizing staff to proceed with authorizing the handicapped ramp and sidewalk improvements.

• Elected leaders awarding the contract for the Mistlin softball field complex to O.C. Jones and Sons, with the approved change order at $4.15 million.

• They’ll do a first-reading and possibly an adoption on an ordinance to raise taxes necessary to carry on the various functions of the City of Ripon.
