Ripon may move location for new indoor soccer arena

The planned indoor soccer facility at the Mistlin Sports Park is looking to relocate.
Rather than build it on the west end of the park – that’s west of the paver parking lot under the original layout – the Ripon City Council on Tuesday could opt for the staff-recommended location at the north-east corner of the Ripon Road and Fulton Avenue intersection.
“This location has better access to utilities and also does not require the volume of fill to raise the elevation of the site that the other location requires,” said City Administrator Kevin Werner in his staff report.
He along with Director of Public Works Ted Johnston, Planning Director Ken Zuidervaart, Recreation Director Kye Stevens, and architect Dave Stark recently reviewed a preliminary layout of the facility. They believe that new location is best for the facility.
“Not only because of the utility and elevation challenges but (it) also improves the overall layout of the park,” Werner added.
The only negatives, according to the staff report, include an existing house being abandoned – this was likely to happened considering the plans to widen River Road between Fulton Avenue and the Cornerstone development to the east – and a portion of an aging orchard needing to be removed.
Removing this portion of the orchard would also cost about $1,000 a year from the city’s general fund.
This item and others will take place during the 6 p.m. open session in the Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave.
The agenda also includes:
uCouncil members proclaiming April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month to the Women’s Center of San Joaquin County.
uA public hearing prior to approving the resolution adopting Ripon Consolidated Fire District’s update of the Fire Facility Impact Fee study dated March 10, 2017.
