City of Ripon may get into renting chairs

The weather forecast for the upcoming Veterans’ Day calls for mostly cloudy and a chance of rain.

That’s according to Accuweather.

The Ripon City Council on Tuesday will discuss a contingency plan for the outdoor event scheduled for Monday, Nov. 11,  in case of wet weather.

Elected leaders are looking at a backup facility as an option.

They’ve recently talked about furnishing chairs along with a public address system for use, specifically, for this event along with the annual Memorial Day service.

The Ripon City Council is looking to have a policy in place on loaning 150 chairs stored in the signature Ripon Water Tower at Mistlin Sports Park.

The same chairs were among the 600 purchased by the City initially for functions at the Mistlin Sports Park amphitheater.

The chairs are also used at various functions, including those sponsored by the American Legion Post 190 and Veterans of Foreign War.

Not too long ago, Public Works took inventory of chairs, estimating that 450 of the 600 chairs can be used at the Mistlin facilities.

Of that, 150 can be stored inside the tower and be readily available – PA system, if necessary – for Veterans’ Day and Memorial Day events.

Council is expected to take a closer look at the policy during the 7 p.m. open session inside the Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Rd.

Included are guidelines for organizations seeking to borrow the chairs.
