Donna Parks will serve another year as president for the Ripon Unified school board.

She was nominated back to the post at the organizational session by her colleague, Kit Oase, who is again the board vice president.

Trustee Ernie Tyhurst nominated Oase for that second year. Tyhurst, in turn, will repeat as clerk while Superintendent Bill Draa was appointed secretary.

Parks and Tyhurst have been on the board since 2006.

She’s the wife of Phil Parks. They’ve been married for 30 years, employed in private business, and parents of two sons.

She’s also the mother of Ripon Councilman Jake Parks.

Oase has been on the board since 2010 and is a retired educator. During his 35 years, he worked in public education in Elk Grove, Escalon, San Leandro, and Stanislaus County.

As for Tyhurst, he’s a retired City of Ripon employee. Tyhurst started with the Ripon Police Department, where he was a liaison between the city and the school district as a member and chair of the School Attendance Review Board.

He was the Director of Planning and Economic Development. In that role, Tyhurst helped develop the City’s General Plan not to mention revisions of it in 1998 and 2005.

Trustees, in addition, adopted the board calendar for 2014 and submitted a request to the City of Ripon for continued use of the Council Chambers for another year. RUSD board meetings have been held there since 2011.
