Family Movie Night is back at the amphitheater of the Mistlin Sports Complex.

The first of two for this summer was held last month with “Wreck-It Ralph.”

Last year’s summer blockbuster “The Avengers” – at $1.5 billion worldwide, it was highest grossing film for 2012 – will be the free movie on Aug. 16.

This Marvel Comic superhero film was written and directed by Joss Whedon, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios. The ensemble cast includes Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (the Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye).

The showing in Ripon will begin at about 8:45 p.m. or when it gets dark.

The free movies in the park series started three years ago when the Ripon City Council decided to provide close-to-home entertainment for the entire family during a weak economy.

Those attending are encouraged to bring their blanket or low-lying lawn chairs to Mistlin for the outdoor movie.

Concessions are made available by the non-profit organizations.

For the city, the cost to put on the family event is about $800 per movie. Included are licensing, distribution, and equipment use.

The City of Ripon furnishes the sound system.
