A group of 70 Girl Scouts in the area will be at the American Legion Hall in Ripon on Saturday putting together blankets, stockings and other gift items to be given to all veterans at the Livermore Veterans Hospital for Christmas. The event is under the supervision of the members of the Ripon VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

On Sunday, Auxiliary members and other volunteers will be at the Ripon VFW Hall on West Ripon Road at the corner of Olive Avenue to prepare packages that will be sent to American troops overseas for Christmas. Included in the care packages will be Christmas cards from school children and others who want to send cheers to the American soldiers.

Anyone who wish to drop off Christmas cards or donated items for the soldiers must have them dropped off at the hall by Saturday.

“We’ll make sure they get into our boxes for our troops,” said Auxiliary member Sherry Layson. They are also asking donations such as candy, nuts, toiletries, games and other items for the care packages.

“We could still use more (of these) for the soldiers for Christmas,” she said.
