RIPON – Wear a spooky Halloween costume and go home with cash prizes. Bonuses to go with that include hors d’oeuvres and salad bar, dancing, and an opportunity to help soldiers serving their country and retired veterans.

You can have all that and more at the annual Halloween party sponsored by the Men’s Auxiliary of VFW Post 1051. The fun event will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, from 5 to7 p.m. at the post’s hall located at 12455 West Ripon Road. Donation is $10 per person which includes the finger foods and salad bar as well as the dancing and costume contest later in the evening.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third best Halloween costumes. Following the dinner will be the costume contest and dancing to the music of a disc jockey. Guests are welcome.

All proceeds from this and other fund-raising events hosted by the members of the Ripon VFW benefit “our active duty (service men and women) and retired volunteers,” said event coordinator Debbie Campbell.

Some of the money is used to send care packages to soldiers serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries in the world. Every three months, the Ripon VFW sends about 50 care packages to soldiers overseas. Those who would like to have loved ones in the military serving overseas receive these care packages may submit their names to the hall by calling 599-6815. The organization also gives donations every year to the Veterans Hospital in Livermore.

The Nicholas P. Kukulica Post 1051 Ripon VFW Hall is open Monday to Thursday from noon to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m.; and Sunday from 8 to 8 p.m.
