A possible burglary in progress in a neighborhood near Ripon’s Weston Elementary School in the southwest section of the city Thursday saw officers quickly alert staff members to move the children to another play area for their safety.

The incident occurred shortly after noon and was resolved within seven minutes by Ripon officers on the scene who had made contact with the school out of an abundance of caution.

First Sgt. Steve Merchant credited the school staff for their efficient handling of the situation during the school’s noon hour recess.
