The American Cancer Society is recruiting teams from local families, businesses, schools, places of worship, and the community as a whole to participate in the annual Ripon Relay For Life one day event on Saturday, June 11,  at the Ripon Community Center on 334 Fourth St.
Relay For Life teams are committed to help save more lives from cancer by raising funds for the Society. Teams and individuals can learn more and sign up for the Relay For Life event by visiting relayforlife.org or contact Merry Wilkerson at 209-996-5881.
The Relay For Life movement unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all. Relay For Life events are community gatherings where teams and individuals camp out at a school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Teams raise funds in the months leading up to the event. The Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to fight every cancer in every community, with four million participants in 6,000 events worldwide in 2015.
In the last 12 years Ripon’s Relay For Life event has raised $1,075,856.
“Relay For Life is a chance to make the greatest impact in the fight to end cancer,” said Brenda Machado, a 13-year volunteer Relay For Life event lead. “Many participants are our loved ones who have faced cancer themselves. Each new team brings us one step closer to saving more lives.”

The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of 2.5 million volunteers saving lives and fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. As the largest voluntary health organization, the Society’s efforts have contributed to a 22 percent decline in cancer death rates in the U.S. since 1991, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates.
Thanks in part to the American Cancer Society’s progress; 14.5 million Americans who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will celebrate more birthdays this year.
