Quick response by staff members at Ripon Elementary School avoided a potential disaster.
Janet ‘Punkin’ Legris, who is the regional manager for the Ripon before and after-school enrichment program formerly known as Stone Soup, was in a staff meeting a few weeks ago that included site manager Ramon Perez.
It was about 6:45 p.m. when she took notice of a small fire that broke out as a result of a faulty florescent light fixture in the Ripon Elementary Multi-Purpose Room.
Perez described it as “plastic dripping” near the area of a bookcase containing Legris’ paperwork.
They sprung into action, using a fire extinguisher to put out the small fire while calling the Ripon Consolidated Fire District.
For their superior action, courage and quick response, Legris and Perez received special recognition at Monday’s Ripon Unified school board meeting.
Both were honored upon each receiving a plaque from the board.
