One duty is to perform fireworks booth inspections each year to insure all the booths are in accordance with the city fire ordinances.

SAFE began seven years ago and they have assisted firefighters in many ways. Some of the things SAFE does are weed abatement, a daily mail run to each station, fire station tours and when the fire department has large, difficult fires, plus deliver water and cold towels to refresh those who are doing their job protecting life and property.

The members donate about 3,500 man hours per year, which is a savings to all of the fire department and the City of Manteca.

There is always room for more volunteers.  If anyone is interested, contact Bob Scharmann at (209) 823-5688 or email to bndrbob@aol.com.
