The California Public Utilities Commission has safety issues with the Union Road crossing of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.
It lacks detectable warning tactical strips on all sidewalk approaches to meet the current American Disabilities Act standards. The raised center medians on both sides of the tracks aren’t long enough.
That is why the City of Manteca has been awarded $48,963 to cover the full cost of making those safety improvements. The money comes from federal funds that allow local agencies to minimize or eliminate safety hazards at railroad crossings. The programs are administered by state agencies.
