Schluer seeks election to Area 6 seat on MUSD board

Manteca School Board Trustee Stephen Schluer has announced his intention to run for office in MUSD’s 6th District.  

Schluer, who was unanimously selected by the Board to fill a vacancy in June of 2015, currently represents a district encompassing northwest Manteca bounded by Lathrop Road on the north, Main Street on the east, Louise Avenue on the south, Union Road on the east, Yosemite Avenue on the south and Airport Way on the west with the exception of the Chadwick Square neighborhood on the northeast corner of Lathrop Road and Airport Way. 

Schluer currently works as a Robbery/Homicide Detective for the Manteca Police Department, where he has been employed for 19 years.  In 2010 Schluer received the 2016 Honorable Don Asher Memorial Law Officer of the Year Award and in 2011 he was the recipient of the Manteca Police Department Meritorious Service Medal. He is also the President of the Manteca Police Officers Association.  As the Vice President of the Manteca Unified School Board, Schluer serves on the 2 by 2 Committee with City of Manteca, Middle Grades Committee, Superintendent’s Evaluation Committee, and the Superintendent’s and Deputy Superintendents’ Negotiation Team.   

Schluer has received the endorsements of Congressman Jeff Denham, Chairman of the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors Moses Zapien, Manteca Mayor Steve DeBrum, Manteca Councilmembers Mike Morowit, Debby Moorhead and Vince Hernandez, San Joaquin County Board of Education Member Vern Gebhardt and fellow Manteca School Board President Deborah Romero and Member Kathy Howe. Schluer has also received the endorsement of the Manteca Educator’s Association, the Peace Officers Research Association (PORAC) Region 2 Valley Chapter and the Manteca Police Officer’s Association. 

Schluer was born and raised in Manteca and attended local schools.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Government from California State University of Sacramento.  He is married to Thaera Schluer with two school-age children who attend Manteca Unified schools.  

Schluer holds leadership positons and is involved with a number of city, community and business organizations including the Vice President of the Manteca Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors, Chairman of the Manteca’s every Fifteen Minutes Program, President of the Manteca Youth Softball Association,   Board Member of Northgate Little League, Board Member of the Friends of the Manteca Parks and Recreation Foundation, Board Member of  the Manteca Police Chief’s Foundation, and Member of the Manteca Sunrise Kiwanis.
