The bicyclist killed in a traffic crash during the noon hour Tuesday was identified by authorities  and Glenn DeVrie, 65,  who had been hit by an eastbound  Dodge Caravan.
Police reported that DeVrie had ridden out of the Tidewater bike path in a northbound direction and immediately made a right turn into the bike traffic lane, but then abruptly made a left turn to cross Louise Avenue and was struck by the van.  The bike path crossing of Louise Avenue is located midway between North Main Street and Union Road.
He was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital where he reportedly passed away shortly after arriving at the trauma facility.  The bike path has a pedestrian/bike crossing controlled by red and green lights to protect the riders and pedestrians alike.
The Major Accident Investigation team (MAIT) was called out to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident.
