Shots fired into Harding Ave. home

Shots were fired into a Harding Avenue residence at 1:13 a.m. Sunday from a passing car just north of North Street in central Manteca.

The resident told Manteca Police a drive-by shooter fired some five rounds at his home and then he reported hearing a vehicle drive off at a high rate of speed. He told police that no one had been injured in his home.  Within minutes the police dispatcher received a call from a resident on Sierra Street who told of hearing three shots and possibly seeing a suspect vehicle.

A vehicle parked in front of the Harding Avenue home was found to have been damaged by the gunfire.  The southeast corner of the home had also been hit by gunfire, officers said.

The Sierra Street resident was contacted by police who learned he had seen what was believed to be the suspect vehicle — a newer white four door sedan — that has driven by his home less than a minute before, drive slowly northbound on Harding Avenue and through the stop sign as it turned eastbound on Sierra Street and drove out of the area.

The residents denied any knowledge for a motive behind the shooting that police said was possibly gang related. Detectives are continuing their investigation. If anyone has information regarding this crime, contact the Manteca Police Department at 209.456.8101 or Crime Stoppers at 823-4636.
