Robyn Glover knew that when she auditioned for the Manteca Idol competition that she’d get a chance to perform and meet people from all walks of life.

For the last several months, Glover – a 13-year-old East Union High student – has been able to do just that. Her soothing voice and her outgoing demeanor has made it easy for her to befriend her fellow competitors.

While she loves just about every aspect of the Boys and Girls Club fundraiser that showcases the vocal talent of people from throughout the community, it’s the chance to step on stage and share her passion with the judges and those in attendance that keeps Glover coming back.

“It’s kind of an adrenaline rush when you get up there and get a chance to sing – at first I’m nervous when the song starts but all that goes away when you get into it and you start picking up everything that you’ve practiced for,” Glover said. “It becomes a lot of fun.”

With her trip to the finals, Glover has been busy preparing herself for a variety of different song styles ranging from bubblegum pop to her favorite 80’s tracks. She has to learn each of the songs week-in and week-out in order to compete.

While she’s classically trained as a choir singer, getting the chance to branch off into different types of music gives Glover a chance to learn things about her own vocal ability while playing around with different styles that she isn’t used to singing in front of an audience.

“Since this isn’t what was I really used to, I was stressed out with learning all of the words to the new songs, but after a while I got into the experience and have had nothing but fun with all of the other contestants in making it this far into the competition,” Glover said. “I think that I’ve made some really good friends out of this, and I’ve made some really good memories for sure.”
