Manteca Police Department graveyard shift officers found the man accused of attempting to murder his mother.
Detective Sergeant Mike Sexon said that after following up numerous leads, officers located suspect Alan Duran, 38, in a residence in the 1100 block of Bud Court near Louise Avenue and Highway 99  at 1:47 a.m. on Thursday.  He was arrested without incident.
Duran is being held in the San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp on a charge of attempted murder for the knife attack on his mother Maria Yolanda Sanchez, 58, on Wednesday in her home in the 700 block of East Alameda Street. Police described it as severe blunt force attack.
Sexon said of the victim’s four children – three adult men and a sister – living in the home that she was the only one holding down a 40 hour a week job in the Bay Area.  She would leave at 3:30 a.m. every work day to beat the commute traffic.  Also living in the Alameda Street home where the incident occurred were several of her grandchildren.
The attack occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday when Duran allegedly attacked his mother in the residence, according to police.  The suspect reportedly ran out the front door of the home to find two former neighbors pulling up to the curb with groceries they had picked up from a food pantry.
Duran ran up to their car and asked for a ride into downtown Manteca where he could find an ATM machine telling the couple that he needed cash.  They gave him a lift and dropped him off in the 100 block of East Yosemite Avenue with him quickly disappearing down the street.  The couple then drove back to the Alameda Street home only to find several police cars in front of the suspect’s home unaware what had happened.
Sexon said that he cannot rule out the involvement of drugs in the case until toxicology reports can rule out or confirm the use of drugs.  Mrs. Sanchez was transported by ambulance to the trauma unit of the San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp where she has been still listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
In addition to the “no bail” attempted murder charge, Duran is also being held in lieu of a misdemeanor warrant charge of possessing a controlled substance.  He is scheduled to appear in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
