Some 250 senior citizens greeted Stockton Diocese Bishop Stephen Blaire at a noontime luncheon in the St. Anthony’s Catholic School gym in Manteca last week.

The annual event organized by Sister Ann Venita Britto drew an overflow crowd and five more tables had to be added to the event with seniors of every denomination attending. Santa was on hand in the person of Michael Nancett, manager of Raley’s Market on Union Road. Employees taking on the elves’ duties included Brandon McGuiness and Daniel Dias.

Those having birthdays in December were called to the front of the stage area. Happy birthday wishes were sung to about 15 of those seniors. Both Bishop Blaire and Pastor Patrick Walker also marked their birthdays in December. A separate group demonstrated line dancing in front of the stage.

Entertainment included tap dancing by members of the Manteca Recreation Department Tap Dance class. Catering was provided by the Emeritus senior retirement center on North Union Road. The JRP Band played background music during the luncheon.

Senior citizens attending were from Ripon, Tracy, San Andreas and Stockton.
