Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies followed the trail of a murder suspect Thursday night from Oakdale to Manteca and ended up on Hammer Lane in Stockton where they arrested Abraham Martinez, 25, in a motel where he had allegedly been hiding out following a recent deadly shooting in Modesto.
Detectives had been investigating a predawn shooting of a man they located lying in the middle of the roadway near Mona Drive and South Santa Drive with multiple fatal gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Deputies said Wan Chatman, 40, was unresponsive when they located him at about 5:22 a.m. on Sept. 15.
The Stanislaus County SWAT team was called out to the three locations with warrants for Abraham’s arrest after witnesses reportedly told officers he was probably the responsible with them responding  first to the 500 block of Mann Court in Oakdale. That was before driving their armored vehicle to the 1800 block of Olivewood in Manteca at 6:30 p.m. Thursday where they were assisted by the Manteca Police SWAT team having information he had been at that address and finally to the Hammer Lane address where they found the suspect.
Deputies remained at the Manteca address for about two hours reportedly searching for additional evidence.
He was transported to the Stanislaus County Jail in Modesto and charged with murder and is awaiting a court hearing.
