SACRAMENTO  (AP) — Authorities say four people were killed in a wrong-way crash that blocked several lanes of a freeway in Sacramento.

California Highway Patrol Officer Rich Wetzel says the driver of a Toyota Prius was heading east in the westbound lanes of U.S. Route 50 just east of downtown when the car slammed head-on into a pickup truck shortly before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman driving the Prius and three men inside the pickup truck died at the scene.

A third vehicle was involved, but the driver suffered only minor injuries.

Wetzel says the Prius apparently drove for several miles in the wrong direction before hitting the pickup.

Several westbound lanes were closed hours after the crash as the CHP investigated.
