NEWPORT BEACH (AP) — Police say five people from a single car were killed when it ran off an Orange County street, hit a tree and split into two pieces.
Newport Beach police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe tells KNBC-TV that the Infiniti sedan veered off Jamboree Road at about 5:20 p.m. Monday and hit the tree, splitting in half then catching fire.
Lowe says four people were ejected from the car and died immediately. A fifth was partially ejected and was later declared dead at a hospital.
No names or other details about the dead were immediately available, and the cause of the crash was not immediately clear.
