ROSEVILLE,   (AP) — Officials say a grass fire at a large public park in Roseville has damaged five homes.

Roseville city spokesman Brian Jacobson says the fire broke out Friday afternoon at Maidu Park, which is mostly open grassland and sports fields.

Jacobson says the fire reached five homes across the street from the park. The damages ranged from mild to moderate.

No injuries have been reported.

The fire grew to about 30 acres, roughly a quarter of the park, but Jacobson says firefighters appear to have it surrounded and no further homes appear to be threatened.

Residents have returned to the handful of houses that were evacuated.

Roseville is a city of about 130,000 people 20 miles northeast of Sacramento.
