STOCKTON — Stockton Animal Shelter is staging a three-day “Empty the Shelter” adopt-a-thon.

The event will run from Friday, Aug. 7, through Sunday, Aug. 9, with the goal of clearing out the shelter. Adoption fees on all animals will be waived.

Adoption locations and schedules are as follows:

Stockton Animal Shelter, 1575 S. Lincoln St., Stockton, Hours: Friday-Sunday: Noon to 5 p.m.

Stockton PetSmart, 1520 Trinity Parkway, Hours: Saturday-Sunday: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Manteca PetSmart, 261 Spreckels Ave., Sunday: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“With summer going strong and (shelter) intake numbers continuing to rise, we knew that our next event needed to offer interested adopters some additional incentives, aside from fee-waived adoptions. Hopefully the surprises we’ve planned will make the three day event one to remember. More importantly, I hope we’ll reach our goal of adopting out 100 or more animals,” said Phillip Zimmerman, shelter manager.

The additional incentives include free ice cream from Gleason’s on Saturday at the shelter from noon to 5 p.m.

Although adoption fees are being waived, all adopters must be able to provide a stable and loving home that includes proper nutrition, shelter and veterinary care; SAS wants to ensure that animals go to the right families. To adopt, please bring a valid ID and proof of current address. They also recommend adopters bring their families and pets to ensure a good match when picking their new pet.
