FRENCH CAMP  (AP) — Authorities in California say a 16-year-old boy who escaped from a county juvenile justice facility this summer and died a few hours later had a severe allergic reaction to pollen.

An autopsy found Tracy Ja'mare Brown Jr.'s death stemmed from an "acute type 1 hypersensitivity reaction."

Brown and another boy escaped in June past the fence of Camp Peterson near Stockton.

The two ran into a field of wild rye grass, oak white, Russian thistle and other plants, where Brown collapsed. He later died at a hospital.

Pollen was found in Brown's system. Juvenile justice officials told investigators Brown suffered from severe asthma, respiratory issues and allergies.

The boys' escape prompted county officials to approve beefing up the fence around Camp Peterson.
