MOSS LANDING  (AP) — Authorities say a body found floating in the Monterey Bay by people on a whale watching tour belongs to a man reported missing.
Television station KSBW reports   the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office identified the man Monday as 54-year-old Shariat Madari Babak.
Sheriff’s Cmdr. John Thornburg tells the Salinas station Babak was identified through fingerprints. His vehicle was found in Davenport after he was reported missing.
A whale watching boat found Babak’s body Thursday floating face down in the water.
Thornburg says the gruesome discovery was made four miles off Moss Landing and that the boat captain called the U.S. Coast Guard, which sent a crew out to retrieve the body.
He says a cause of death has not been determined.
