Suspect facing murder charge in San Ramon robbery
SAN RAMON (AP) — A suspect in a failed jewelry store robbery in San Ramon is facing a murder charge after the store owner shot and killed his alleged accomplice.
Contra Costa County prosecutors say 19-year-old Krishneel Prasad has also been charged with three counts of armed robbery and weapons enhancements in the May 30 robbery of the Gold N Treasures store.
The store owner, Everett Parvin, shot and killed Prasad's alleged accomplice, 18-year-old Kibrom Bairu, during the robbery.
Prosecutors charged Prasad with murder under the state's provocative-act doctrine, which holds accomplices responsible when their crime partners act in a way that leads to death.
Deputy District Attorney John Cope says Parvin, the store owner, acted in self-defense and will not face charges.
Two other suspects in the robbery remain at large.
15-year-old killed in officer-involved shooting
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — South San Francisco Police say a 15-year-old boy who was attempting to flee police was shot and killed when he allegedly pulled out a gun at pointed it at an officer.
Capt. Mike Brosnan said during a news conference on Wednesday that the incident occurred in a gas station parking lot Tuesday night after an officer made contact with Derrick Gaines and another teen because they were "engaging in suspicious behavior."
Brosnan said Gaines ran and the officer gave chase and then shot Gaines when the teen pulled out a gun.
Gaines later died at a local hospital.
Brosnan would not say whether Gaines had pointed a gun at the officer.
Police say they recovered the teen's gun at the scene, but would not say whether it was loaded.
The shooting is under investigation.
More sex assault victims against SJ diet clinician
SAN JOSE (AP) — San Jose police say more women are coming forward against a physician's assistant who they accused of sexually assaulting them during their visits to a diet clinic.
Sgt. Jason Dwyer told the San Jose Mercury News (http://bit.ly/Mf7mbS) that the alleged victims recognized Waissuddin Ali whose arrest in March was publicized after a patient accused him of sexually assaulting her in February.
Santa Clara County prosecutors have charged the 35-year-old Ali of Livermore with five misdemeanor counts of sexual battery by fraud.
He is scheduled to appear in court on June 28.
Police say the alleged assaults occurred while Ali was working at Doc's Diet clinic in San Jose.
Dwyer said police worry that there may be more victims.
1 dead, 2 others wounded in Richmond shooting
RICHMOND (AP) — Police say one man has died and two other men were injured following an early evening shooting in Richmond's Park Plaza neighborhood.
The Contra Costa Times (http://bit.ly/Lq9iOK) reports that the city's ShotSpotter system alerted police about a shooting around 5 p.m. as officers found three men in their 20s suffering from gunshot wounds.
Lt. Andre Hill told the newspaper that all three victims were taken to local hospitals where one victim died about an hour later. The other two men suffered non-life threatening injuries.
