• SF POLICE SAY WOMAN HOSPITALIZED AFTER SET ON FIRE: SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco police say a woman is hospitalized with what are being described as “life-threatening injuries” after someone poured a flammable liquid on her and set her on fire.

Police spokesman Officer Carlos Manfredi says officers were called to city’s Bayview District a little after noon by people who reported a woman screaming.

When officers arrived they found a women suffering from what Manfredi described as “severe burns.”

The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was taken to a hospital where she’s being treated at a burn center. Her name has not been released.

Police did not immediately release any suspect information.

About two dozen neighbors watched from their homes or stood watching from sidewalks as police investigated late Sunday afternoon.

Police tape was stretched across the home where the woman apparently lived and the house had a broken front bay window.



• BODY FOUND FLOATING IN SAN LORENZO RIVER: SANTA CRUZ  (AP) — Santa Cruz County authorities are trying to identify the body of a man found floating in the San Lorenzo River.

Santa Cruz police say officers were called to an area near the mouth of the river by witnesses who saw the man’s body around 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

There were no signs of foul play and the cause of death has not been determined. It was not known how long the body was in the river.

After the man’s body was recovered, investigators canvassed the area and interviewed the witnesses who called police.

The San Lorenzo River originates in the Santa Cruz Mountains and flows nearly 30 miles before emptying into Monterey Bay.
