PITTSBURG (AP) — A big-rig driver was killed and two businesses were badly damaged after the driver’s truck slammed into a strip mall.

The Oakland Tribune reports emergency crews were dispatched Monday morning for a report of an explosion.

Police Capt. Ron Raman says the big-rig had crashed into a building that houses a Mexican restaurant and a beauty supply store.

The crash triggered the explosion and fire.

Police found the truck driver dead inside the rig. The man’s name was not released. No other injuries were reported.

A preliminary investigation showed the rig may have had a mechanical problem before the crash.

Before hitting the building, the truck collided with a few other vehicles.
