NATIONAL CITY  (AP) — Moviegoers watching “The Hobbit” in San Diego County were treated to a real-life drama after police chased down a carjacking suspect who’d dashed into the theater and arrested him at gunpoint.

Nobody was hurt in Wednesday morning’s confrontation.

Authorities say a sheriff’s deputy in Oak Park spotted a Toyota that was reported stolen in La Mesa on Dec. 7.

The deputy tried to stop several people who were with the car but one man drove off.

The deputy chased the car but lost it. However, a police helicopter spotted it 20 minutes later. That chase ended with the car stopping at a mall in National City, where the man ran into the movie theater.

Police and sheriff’s deputies followed and arrested him.
