OAKLAND, (AP) — Police say the California Highway Patrol shot and killed a man in Oakland after he ran from his vehicle waving a gun following a chase.
The incident began a little before 3 a.m. Tuesday when two CHP officers in a patrol cruiser spotted the man driving a BMW X5 SUV without license plates on Interstate 580.
Oakland police spokeswoman Johanna Watson says the driver refused to stop and led the officers on a chase through city streets.
He eventually crashed into two parked cars on a dead-end street. Both officers opened fire when the man ran from the vehicle with a gun.
