COMPTON (AP) — Los Angeles prosecutors say a 16-year-old from Compton has been convicted of killing her mother and stepfather while she and her boyfriend were planning to hold a Halloween party in the family's mobile home in 2011.
Deputy District Attorney Kristin Trutanich says Cynthia Alvarez was convicted by a jury Friday after three hours of deliberation.
Alvarez was 15 at the time of the slayings, and prosecutors said she and her boyfriend went to buy glow sticks, beer and costume supplies for the party while her mother's body was still in their car.
The bodies of 58-year-old Gloria Villalata and 51-year-old Jose Lara were dumped in abandoned lots after they were killed sometime between Oct. 13 and Oct. 15 in 2011.
Alvarez is due for sentencing June 21.
