CUPERTINO. (AP) — The Cupertino sky will be free of July 4 fireworks this year.
The San Jose Mercury News reports fireworks will not be launching from the Fremont Union High School District football field as drought conditions make it too expensive to spray the 100,000 gallons of water needed to protect the turf.
School officials notified the city of their decision in a letter May 19.
City officials say other Independence Day activities will go on as planned.
