SANTA ANA  (AP) — Authorities say an Orange County man carved his name into his girlfriend’s chest with a razor blade while holding her hostage and threatening her.

Sergio Mendoza pleaded not guilty Monday to felony counts of kidnapping, criminal threats and domestic battery.

Prosecutors allege he got into frequent fights with his girlfriend earlier this month. They say he punched her and forced her to sit in his car while he was at work under the threat of violence.

Prosecutors say the 39-year-old Mendoza at one point told his girlfriend he would let her leave if he could carve his first name on her chest with a razor blade. They say he kept holding her against her will and beating her until she eventually escaped from his car and asked an employee at a business to call 911.
