VALLEY SPRINGS (AP) — Divers are searching two reservoirs and detectives are knocking on doors in Calaveras County as the investigation continues into the killing of 8-year-old Leila Fowler.

Sheriff’s officials say the dive recovery teams will search throughout the day Sunday.

Meanwhile investigators are knocking on the doors of hundreds of homes in the Valley Springs and Rancho Calaveras areas as they try to find possible witnesses in their search for the girl’s killer.

Leila was found stabbed in her family home last Saturday. Her 12-year-old brother described his sister’s killer as being tall with long gray hair, but officials say a witness who said she also saw the man flee has since recanted and is no longer credible.
