SANTA ANA  (AP) — A Southern California doctor has been sentenced to more than 11 years in prison for illegally prescribing drugs to his patients at nightly meetings in Starbucks stores.

Federal prosecutors say 44-year-old Alvin Mingczech Yee of Mission Viejo was sentenced Thursday to 135 months in prison. He pleaded guilty in April to seven counts of illegal distribution of a controlled substance by a practitioner.

Authorities say Yee saw up to a dozen patients nightly at Starbucks coffee stores across suburban Orange County at meetings that cost up to $600. Yee barely examined them but prescribed powerful painkillers such as OxyContin and Vicodin.

He was arrested in October 2011 at his office and investigators seized large amounts of commonly abused drugs linked to Yee from suspected drug dealers and others in Detroit, Phoenix and Seattle.
