EU Cemetery still needs clean-up day volunteers

East Union Cemetery supporters are seeking volunteers for a big fall clean-up day set for Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the 143-year-old cemetery at Union Road and Louise Avenue.

Board President Janice Zacharias is asking local families and volunteer groups on Oct. 24 to bring their power lawn trimmers and other tools, and lend a hand to prep the cemetery for winter.

“What we need most is to trim grass around headstones and markers about 3-4 inches back, to reduce the need for trimming in the winter months — during the rain and cold season,” she said.  “We are a new board and want to connect with families of loved ones, so light refreshments and hot dogs will be served following the clean-up.”

Those who cannot join volunteers Oct. 24 but who still wish to help, can mail cash gifts of support to P. O. Box 591, Manteca-CA, 95336.

Families, service groups and other interested community partners can reach Suzanne Roberts-Clemens at 209.815.7039, or by email at sjconnections@comcast.net or EUCemetery@mail.com
