CLOVIS  (AP) — Two central California teachers charged with unlawful sex with a minor have each been sentenced to three years of probation for having sex with an underage student.

The Fresno Bee reports Superior Court Judge Jonathan Skiles denied recommendations Wednesday to put 33-year-old Matthew Pena and 30-year-old Dwayne Andrews behind bars and register them as sex offenders, because neither of the men had prior criminal records. The pair taught and coached at Clovis High School.

The student, who is now 18, told police she had sexual relations with Andrews and Pena at different times in 2014. She said she was in love with Pena and had his name tattooed on her body.

Both men previously pleaded no contest to unlawful sex with a minor as part of a plea deal.
