High school students Waters, Bowman recognized by Ripon Soroptimist Club

Students Abbie Waters and Kristin Bowman were honored as Soroptimist International of Ripon’s Girls of the Month for the month of February.

Waters was selected by the Science Department at Ripon High, where she is a straight-A student and active member in the campus community.

An aspiring physician, Waters is a two-sport athlete, lettering in basketball and track and field. She’s also the California Scholarship Federation President, member of the Girl’s League, student council, Academic and Athletic Block R and Renaissance, Link Crew and foreign language clubs.

She has volunteered at Second Harvest Food bank, the Boys and Girls Club, the Manteca Fire Department and with Rina’s Run, an annual half-marathon in Ripon.

Her class load has included 10 AP courses. Waters plans on attending a four-year university, where she plans to major in human biology.

Bowman was selected by the Music Department at Ripon Christian, where hers is a familiar name across campus. Bowman competes for the Lady Knights’ basketball and softball programs. She is a member of the Knightsounds, Knightingales, Close-Up club, Jazzettes and the chapel band.

A lifetime member of the CSF, Bowman has volunteered as a coach at a middle-school basketball camp for the last four year and has also served as a counselor at Big Valley Grace Community Church’s bible school.

Bowman sports a 3.76 GPA and has been bestowed the Presidential Award for Academic Achievement three years running, the ACSI Distinguished Award in fine arts, as well as the Junior Class Word Wright title.

She plans to attend Grand Canyon University, beginning her work toward becoming a music teacher.
