HAYWARD  (AP) — The California Highway Patrol says a highway connector was closed after a car crashed against a utility pole and knocked it down.

The CHP says the southbound Highway 880 to State Highway 238 connector in Hayward reopned Monday afternoon.

It says crews with Pacific Gas and Electric Co., CHP and Caltrans worked to fix the pole and re-open the highway connector.

The CHP says an SUV struck a pole along the Washington Avenue off-ramp before dawn Monday, causing the pole to come down.
