ONTARIO (AP) — Authorities in Riverside County say a resident shot and wounded a man who allegedly broke into a home in Ontario.
Ontario Police Lt. Pat Birkett says the break-in and subsequent shooting were reported early Tuesday.
John Cortes, who lives in the home, tells KABC-TV the intruder went into the bedroom of his sister, who screamed and woke up the rest of the family.
Cortes says the man was shot two or three times.
It wasn’t immediately clear who pulled the trigger.
Officials say the suspect underwent surgery for gunshot wounds.
Birkett says the family is cooperating with investigators.
Detectives found signs of forced entry at the home.
