OAKLAND (AP) — Protesters smashed business windows on the edge of downtown Oakland and tore ornaments and lights from a large Christmas tree in a protest designed to keep police working on the holiday.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the protest was called “No Time Off.” It was the latest demonstration in the Bay Area following grand jury decisions to not indict white police officers in the killings of unarmed black men in Missouri and New York.

Over the last several weeks, protesters have blocked freeways, set fires and smashed windows of businesses.

On Christmas, organizers said the rally was held because protesters didn’t want the holiday stop them from ending institutional racism in police departments.

No arrests or injuries were reported. Another protest is planned in downtown San Francisco Friday. Organizers say they don’t plan to vandalize property.
