SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Two sinkholes opened on the streets of San Francisco during a sustained rain storm.
Local media reported Wednesday that a growing 20-foot-by-30-foot crater opened at an intersection in a residential neighborhood on the west side of the city. An 8-inch water main underneath the road also broke. City officials said heavy rains overnight likely caused the road to collapse Wednesday morning. No injuries or damaged vehicles were reported.
The street will be closed indefinitely while crews work to fill the hole.
A smaller sinkhole opened along the curb in the city’s Castro District that was about three feet deep. A single city worker was seen filling the hole with dirt.
