SANTA BARBARA  (AP) — A magnitude-4.8 earthquake jolted the Southern California coast Wednesday morning, but no significant problems were reported.

The 7:38 a.m. temblor was centered 3 miles west of Isla Vista in Santa Barbara County and occurred at a depth of 5 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Shaking was felt as far away as Bakersfield in the southern San Joaquin Valley and in Los Angeles.

Santa Barbara County authorities received no reports of damage or injuries, but KEYT-TV reported receiving accounts of minor problems such as broken glass and objects falling from walls.

The epicenter was in the Santa Barbara Channel region about 100 miles west of Los Angeles. California typically experiences about 15 quakes every year with magnitudes greater than 4.6. The Santa Barbara region has been seismically quiet in recent years.

Last week, a magnitude-5.7 temblor hit a remote section of Northern California and caused some damage.
