LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Southern California man who sexually assaulted 10 children over a 15-year period has been sentenced to 48 years in state prison.
Francisco Avendano (Ah-vehn-DAHN’-yoh) was sentenced Wednesday. Last month he pleaded no contest to more than a dozen counts of committing lewd acts on children and a count of continuous sexual abuse.
Prosecutors say the Newhall man molested children ranging in age from 3 to 15 years old, beginning in 2001. The victims were family members, family friends and the children of friends.
His live-in girlfriend, Jacqueline Wadsworth, pleaded no contest to a single lewd-act charge and was sentenced earlier this month to probation and a year of therapy.
The couple must register as sex offenders for life.
