Mayors chili cook off takes place Feb. 23

Manteca Mayor’s Committee on the Arts is holding their Chili Cook Off on Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Manteca Senior Center, 295 Cherry Lane,  from 12:30  to 3 p.m.

The Mayor’s Committee is made up of 19 different clubs and organizations that want to promote art in the community and help art students in their educational pursuits.

Chefs from the community will serve as judges. They are Chef Bryan, the instructor for the MUSD Be-cuisine; Carissa and Joseph Weber, chefs for Weber’s BBQ and More; and Carolyn Peters from the Fagundes Meats & Catering.

One of the competing cooks is a 13-year-old boy, Indjo Alvarado, who wants to be a chef. His father, Frank, will be his helper.

Kevin Fahey, chef for Barnwood Restaurant in Ripon, will be one of the contestants. He is a recent graduate from the Napa Culinary School.

The Chain Gang – Jewelry & Art club will have intricate items for sale. The Artists Guild will be having an Art show/Sale. Members that will be participating are Genie Becker, Duane Becker and his wood crafts, Inga Perry, Dan Voller, and Gary Wilson to name a few.
