CUPERTINO (AP) — Wildlife officials in Northern California say they have shot and killed a mountain lion they believe is the one that attacked a 6-year-old boy.
California Department of Fish and Wildlife spokeswoman Patrick Foy says it is highly likely that the 65-pound male mountain lion shot and killed Wednesday is the one that attacked the boy on a hiking trail on Sunday, but it will take DNA tests to be sure.
Foy says that searchers and dogs found the mountain lion in the morning and cornered it 70 feet high in a tree.
He says darting and capturing the mountain lion alive was not a viable option.
