2 BOYS PLUNGE OUT APARTMENT WINDOW : HAWTHORNE (AP) — Two toddlers have fallen out of a Southern California apartment window and one is in critical condition.
Authorities were called to a building in an unincorporated area near the city of Hawthorne shortly before noon Tuesday.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Sergio Escobedo says the 2-year-olds — part of a set of triplets — were napping on a bed next to a louvred window in a second-story apartment when they apparently awakened and crawled through a gap left by missing window slats.
They fell onto the concrete below but were alert when authorities arrived.
County fire officials say one boy was taken to a hospital in critical condition and the other was treated for moderate injuries.
Escobedo says the children’s parents and two other children were home at the time.
ARREST IN SHOOTING DEATHS ALONG RIVER IN MODESTO: MODESTO (AP) — Authorities have arrested a 74-year-old man on suspicion of murder in the shooting death of two people along the Tuolumne River in Modesto.
Police said 30-year-old Cynthia Antrim and 41-year-old Chad Evert Romesha, who were believed to be homeless and living near the river, were shot Sunday morning.
Stanislaus County sheriff’s officials said Antrim was pronounced dead at the scene, and Romesha was taken to a hospital where he died.
Officials say Robert Leon Lynch was found at the scene and detained for questioning. He was later booked on suspicion of murder and held without bail.

BOY, 9, SUFFERS SHOCK AT BACKYARD PARTY: TEMECULA (AP) — A 9-year-old Riverside County boy was hospitalized after suffering a serious electric shock at his backyard birthday party over the weekend.
The boy apparently touched a metal patio cover support that had somehow become electrified on Saturday. There was a string of electric lights on the patio cover that the family suspects might have been the cause.
The Temecula boy was flown in critical condition to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.
The newspaper reported Monday that Elijah’s mother and a guest at the party were also shocked while tending to the boy but not seriously injured.
PALO ALTO TEEN ARRESTED FOR PELLET RIFLE STICK-UP: PALO ALTO (AP) — Palo Alto police have arrested a teenager on suspicion of attempted robbery after he shot a 9-year-old boy with an airsoft rifle and demanded money.
Police said Monday the 14-year-old walked up to the younger boy and shot him once in the arm, chased him down a residential street and demanded money.
The 9-year-old was not seriously injured and was treated by firefighters for redness and swelling to his arm.
Police say the teen was arrested on suspicion of felony attempted robbery and released to a parent per department policy.
