MAN ARRESTED IN MANHATTAN BEACH SEX STING SUES : MANHATTAN BEACH  (AP) — A man arrested in a Manhattan Beach sex sting has sued the city claiming police unfairly targeted him and violated his privacy when they publicized his name and released his photo.

Charles Couch, 22, of Hawthorne filed the lawsuit Friday in a Los Angeles federal court alleging he was subject to false arrest, unlawful search and seizure, and multiple civil rights violations.

The March 2012 operation involved a beach bathroom police said was known as a meeting place for men seeking sex.

Couch says he was working as a caregiver for a mentally disabled child and was waiting outside the bathroom when the child walked into the sting.

Officers came out, tackled and handcuffed Couch. Couch is demanding $5 million in damages.

AUDIT: $650K WASTED ON CA VETS' ADVENTURE PARK: SACRAMENTO   (AP) — Hundreds of thousands of tax-payers' dollars were squandered on a plan to build an adventure park at a historic state-run veterans home in Northern California.

California State Auditor Elaine Howle says in a report released Thursday that the administrator of the Veterans Home of California in Yountville wasted more than $650,000 building a nearly 200-acre park and operating a cafe and tavern on its grounds.

The chief of Veterans' Affairs administration stopped the project in August 2010 after residents and staff complained.

The park, intended to bring in revenue for the home, would have featured a sprawling zip-line tour with an observation deck, trails for biking and hiking, and a lake path.

MAYOR'S HUSBAND ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED DRUG SALES: MONTEBELLO  (AP) — The husband of Montebello's mayor has been arrested for allegedly selling methamphetamine and other drugs near a school.

Los Angeles County sheriff's investigators say 44-year-old Ruben Guerrero was taken into custody Thursday as he was leaving his home. Bail was set at $60,000.

Guerrero is married to Mayor Christina Cortez, who has been on the City Council since 2010. Her term expires in November 2015.

Guerrero has been convicted of driving under the influence in 1999. Fire department officials also investigated a suspicious fire last year that torched the then-councilwoman's SUV. The vehicle was often driven by Guerrero.

MOM CONVICTED OF SEXUALLY ASSAULTING TEENS: FULLERTON  (AP) — A 43-year-old Orange County mother has been convicted of sexually assaulting two teenagers who visited her home to spend time with her children.

The Orange County district attorney's office says Nicole McMillen of Irvine had an ongoing sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy for more than a year beginning in 2005.

Prosecutors say she also had sexual contact with a 14-year-old male on multiple occasions last year.

She was arrested after the 14-year-old told his mother about the incidents.

At the time of the crimes, McMillen worked with kindergarteners at Peter's Canyon Elementary School in Tustin as a behavioral interventionist.

She faces more than six years in prison and lifetime sex offender registration when she is sentenced in January.
